APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2012 OBA BULLDOGS TEAMS HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL SEPT. 9th FOR THE FOLLOWING AGE GROUPS:
Minor Rookie - 8 yrs (birth yr 2004)Rookie - 9 yrs (birth yr 2003)Minor Peewee -12 yrs (birth yr 2000)Peewee -13 yrs (birth yr 1999)Minor Bantam - 14 yrs (birth yr 1996)Midget - 17-18 yrs (birth yr 1994-1995)
** Ages are based on as of the end of 2012
If any of these age groups do not move ahead with an OBA (rep) team for 2012, we will look at the possibility of having Select teams. What is Select you might ask?
The Select Ontario Baseball Association, better known as SOBA, is an association that establishes, governs and maintains select baseball teams in the province of Ontario. SOBA organizes and manages team competitions for the SOBA Provincial Championships and Intact House League Provincial Championships. Georgina Minor Baseball is a member of SOBA.
We have choices:
- A dedicated Select team: kids will only play on the Select team. They will travel much like an OBA team, but on a smaller scale
- A non-dedicated Select team: kids will play on a HL as well as Select team. This gives them more diamond time and the ability to play on a more competitive team while keeping our local HL association strong.
In 2011 the Select fees (extra) were $100. This covered diamond time, uniforms, cost of umpires and equipment. Select generally starts after HL starts so we are not under a lot of pressure at this point to decide, HOWEVER, we will need to revisit our options in the spring, 2012. All of these decisions will be made by the upcoming Executive that will be chosen at the AGM Sept. 15th, 7 pm, IP, multipurpose room.

Conner Stevenson is one of our own Georgina Minor Baseball members that was picked up by the Ontario Blue Jays this past summer!
Conner played for 16U last season and had a very successful year ( #4 clean up batter), 3rd best average on team! They showed some success at tournaments in the States ... including a regional qualifier that allowed them to be 1 of 9 teams in the Mickey Mantle world series in August...this is similar to the little league you might see televised for the 12 year olds. They came 3rd at the Mickey Mantel World Series and infact beat the #1 ranked team to get there....really an unbelievable accomplishment for any Canadian team!
This season has started and he has already had training camp where they select from all the 16, 17 and 18 year old kids, fill a roster and tour the states from Sept 15 to end of October. They play teams from all NCAA and NJAA schools...florida State, Michigan State etc...it's an incredible experience. The idea is to showcase the best talent of the Jays to all school recruiters for scholarships. Conner is 16 and was selected to go!!!

Georgina Minor Baseball Association will hold it Annual General Meeting, Thursday September 15th @ Georgina Ice Palace, multi purpose room, 7 p.m. All members in good standing are encourage to come out and select their executive team for 2012 baseball season.
